Bear was the First Professor of Systematic Theology at Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, from 1854 until his death in 1880. Date from note on cover: "In memory of Mrs. Cynthia Ewing C. Beard, who died May 27, aged 82 years, and nows sleeps beside her husband in sweet repose . . ." Back cover advertises musical and other publications by Rev. W.T. Dale, B.D. Has photo of him.
