Agency history:

"Musicianers and Songsters: A Seminar on Black Music in the South," organized by Center for Popular Music audio archivist Bruce Nemerov, was presented at Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN on 27 February 1990 as a part of the University's celebration of Black History Month. Seminar presenters were Paul Wells, director of the Center for Popular Music, who spoke on "Black Fiddling: A Little- Known Aspect of American Music"; Doug Seroff, researcher and promoter of traditional black gospel music, who spoke on "Gospel Quartet Singing in Jefferson County, Alabama"; Laura Jarmon, MTSU department of English, who spoke on "From Blues to Gospel: The Case of W.B. 'Hop' Hopkins"; and Charles K. Wolfe, MTSU department of English, who spoke on "The Legend of Leadbelly".
 

Scope and Content:

This group consists of 2 audio cassettes (RCA-0105A/B) of the seminar presentations; a video tape cassette (VCH-0105) of the Thompson Brothers used by Paul Wells in his presentation; a seminar poster\flyer; notes by Paul Wells on the original Thompson Brothers video recording (VCH-0079) from which his presentation was drawn; Doug Seroff's listing and description of video clips used in his presentation; and lyrics of songs sung by W.B. "Hop" Hopkins played by Laura Jarmon during her presentation.
 

Location:

The audio and video tapes are filed by tape number with other archival audio visual materials. Manuscripts are filed by accession number with other manuscripts. Reference copies of the audio cassette were transferred to the librarian.
