Provenance:

Five (5) reel-to-reel audio tapes of original home recordings, belonging to the Martin family, were loaned to the Center by Bobby Anderson and Eddie Pennington (of "That Muhlenberg Sound") for preservation copying onto four reels. The other thirty-two (32) sources brought in for transfer (and edited for production of a compact disc and cassette tape) were transferred onto the fifth reel while the donors were present.
 

Biographical Sketch:

Odell Martin (ca. 1935-1985) was born in Kentucky. A fingerstyle guitar player, he studied under Mose Rager, Kennedy Jones, and Merle Travis. Martin was a Nashville road musician with various artists (Donna Fargo, Hank Snow, Faron Young) beginning ca. 1959 until his death by car accident.
 

Scope and Content:

Five (5) reel-to-reel audio tape transfers (5 hours) consisting of commercial recordings, live home or public performances, and air checks. The recordings in the first four reels were compiled by Martin of himself and his friends. The recordings in the fifth reel were selected by Anderson and Pennington for issuing on a commercial recording.

Audio tapes are filed by tape number with other archival audio visual materials.
