Provenance:

These forty-eight (48) home recordings were loaned to the Center for preservation copying by Mr. Acuff through Dr. Charles Wolfe and the Tennessee Folklore Society in October 1995. The two concert programs and a handwritten note were donated to the Center at the same time.
 

Biographical Sketch:

Charlie "Red" Acuff, fiddler, was born in 1919 in Maynardsville, Tennessee to a musical family which included famous cousin Roy.
 

Scope and Content:

Seven (7) reel-to-reel audio tape transfers (5.75 hours) of instantaneous discs (home recordings or acetates), recorded between July 1946 and December 1962, documenting the music of the Acuff family and their musical friends and colleagues. Recordings consist of live home or public performances, but also include air checks.

Included with the donation are an East Tennessee country music benefit concert program and a program of the 1994 Festival of American Fiddle Tunes.
 

Location:

Audio tapes are filed by tape number with other archival audio visual materials. The concert programs are filed in the vertical file under "concerts--Tennessee" and in the oversize under "festivals."
